How to Make Custom Candle Labels

The candle making process isn’t over once the wax is poured—you need to properly label your products. Whether you sell candles on Etsy, at craft fairs, or inside stores, you want your products to be easily identifiable. Custom roll labels are a simple way to mark your candles with product information, like the scent and materials, and your branding, like your logo and company name. There are also some legal candle labeling requirements; you should also add fire safety information, so customers burn your products responsibly.

When creating candle labels, you want the design to match both the scent and your company’s branding. You need to select a legible font, so all the information is easy to read. The text colors also need to stand out against the background colors. Printing black ink on a dark purple background will make it impossible to read the text. Instead, opt for contrasting colors, like black ink on a light blue background, that will print clearly.

Make the labels match the scent; a pine scented candle should have branding that reflects a forest or other natural elements. Keeping that in mind, there should be some uniformity across your candle designs so people will always be able to identify your brand. You can achieve this by using the same fonts across different scented candle labels and adding your logo to the designs.

Once you’ve printed candle labels, make sure you apply them precisely.  Wait until the wax has set and the container is room temperature. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface, then make sure it is dry. If you have a round container, use blocks of wood or something similarly sturdy to prevent it from moving. Once the sticker label is aligned, it’s time to place it onto the surface. To apply the label to round containers, start at the center of the label and apply pressure moving outwards. Go slowly to avoid any bubbles or creases. On flat containers, start at one edge and move across.

When you have a design in mind, here are the best options for candle label shapes.

Rectangle Labels

Ideal for tall candle jars, rectangular labels are the most popular candle label shape. The sharp lines provide a sophisticated feel to your luxury candle labels. They are also very practical, as they provide plenty of space for your business details and safety information. Use a fun design, like the linear florals and abstract patterns in these roll label templates.

Circle Candle Labels

Many candle businesses sell their scents in multiple sizes, with smaller size options often coming in round metal cans. These round stickers are just the right fit for the top of a candle lid. With sizes ranging from 0.75” diameter to 5” diameter, these sticker labels will fit many candle sizes. Another common use for circle labels is to print all the safety information on a separate label and then place it on the bottom of a round container. Make sure your custom design will fit inside the shape.

Square Candle Labels

Like rectangle labels, square labels provide a lot of space for your logo, branded visuals, candle details, and safety information. This size is ideal for short and wide containers. Whether you want a minimalist aesthetic or an illustrated design, a square label will complement your candles.

Oval Candle Labels

Oval labels let your candle container shine. Whether you’re using clear glass jars, opaque containers, or ceramic or aluminum containers, the oval design is long and narrow, so the vessel stands out. This shape is best used for tall containers. Customize your design to best fit the shape dimensions.
